Since Ken has hearkened back to our youth, I wanted to add a story from then. I’m not sure how old I was – maybe about six or seven. I was out in the back field following Dad around. Not sure what he was doing out there but I liked being outdoors. Only now do I realize how idyllic our surrounding were. I used to play in the alfalfa fields with my best friend. We’d play with four-leaf clovers and eat tender shoots of alfalfa.
So, back to the back field. Dad and I were out there and I wandered off for a few minutes on my own, close to a large tree. I saw the cutest little black and white kittens with their mother in a hole in the tree. I ran excitedly to dad and said, “You have to come and see the cute kittens!” Dad being no dummy, guessed right away what we were dealing with and took me by the hand and got me out of there very quickly. He then explained that my ‘kitten’s were in fact skunks and an encounter with them would not be pleasant. Of course, I was disappointed….
